How To Pack Like A Pro Before Moving?

August 16, 2021 Posted by Andika Duncan Lifestyle, Moving, Tip for Home Buyers, Tips for Home Sellers

Moving can be an overwhelming experience, which is why it is important to prepare in advance. There are many things that you need to think about when you are planning a move – where are you moving to? What do you need to bring? How do I pack my belongings?

Make a plan ahead of time.

Create a master to-do list to ensure that you don’t forget anything important before the moving day arrives This will also assist you in developing an estimate of the time and costs associated with moving.

Remove items from your home that you no longer want or need.

Consider how frequently you use a particular item and how you would feel if you were no longer in possession of it. Make piles for unwanted items such as those for a garage sale, those to donate, and those to recycle.

Organize your belongings by grouping items that are similar.

When it comes time to unpacking, it will make your life a lot easier.

Make a decision about what you want to move on your own.

Precious items such as family photos, valuable breakables, or items that are a must-have during the move should most likely be kept with you during the move. Before unpacking your “Open First” box, prepare a moving day bag with a small first-aid kit, snacks, and any other items you may require during the move.

Know what your movers will bring with them.

Many movers will not accept plants or liquids as belongings. Check with them about any other items you might need so you can prepare to pack them on your own.

Heavy items should be placed in small boxes.

As much as possible, try to keep the weight of each box below 50 pounds.

Moving boxes should be labeled on all sides

Don’t overstuff your boxes.

It increases the likelihood that the items contained within the box will be damaged or broken.

Wrap fragile items in a separate layer of wrapping paper.

In order to protect the bottoms and sides of the boxes, you may need to purchase bubble wrap or other packing materials from moving supply stores. Plants should be protected in air-tight containers.

Every box should be labeled on all sides.

It’s impossible to predict how they’ll be stacked. Additionally, color-coded labels should be used to indicate which room each box should be placed in, which should correspond to a color-coded floorplan for the movers.

Keep all of your moving documents in one place, whether it’s in your moving day bag or on the internet

Include all of the necessary contact information, such as the driver’s name, the van’s license plate, and the company’s contact information.

Backing up computer files to the cloud is a good idea.

Alternatives include storing a physical backup on an external hard drive that is kept offsite.

As soon as the boxes and furniture are delivered, thoroughly inspect them.

Check ahead of time to see if your moving company has a simple process for reporting damage to the insurance company.
